With a market share of about 45 percent, the Upper Austrian Hospital Service Provider (gespag) is the largest hospital operator in Upper Austria. The project P2 at gespag stands for the second phase of the replacement of the patient accounting system PABU with SAP IS-H and mpa. P2 was started in September 2007 and presumably will continue until mid 2012.
While all regional hospitals in Upper Austria already migrated to mpa medical reports writing during the P2 project, the conversion of the hospitals in Kirchdorf, Freistadt, Schärding, Bad Ischl, Rohrbach and Vöcklabruck to the gespag-wide central IS-H patient administration system in connection with mpa has also been concluded in the meantime.
After renewal of the central HW infrastructure at the regional hospital at Zwettl and portation from VMS to Windows as operating system as well as changing the database from RDB to Oracle on the central server, a major upgrade of the laboratory information system has been carried out, changing from file-based to db based. Then mpa was implemented as a tool for comprehensive support of medical and nurse care processes.
In the context of a long-term project the following facilities have been implemented in 57 Lower Austrian Senior Citizens, Nursery and Youth Homes:
The system comprises of 3.800 users from different professional groups in nursery homes and youth centers all over Lower Austria.
It took only 5 months to equip all nursery homes and youths centers with the new ThinClients and connect them to the new computing center, thus providing comprehensive office communication (Internet, text processing, e-mail) for approximately 3.800 users.
Only 7 months after project start uniform financial accounting, cost accounting, client administration and accounting (with harmonized data integrated) including corresponding internal and external interfaces - to avoid double recording - could be put into operation.
Lower Austria's nursery homes and youth centers trust systema's professional project management and extensive experience when it comes to implement projects in health care and social services.
For the implementation of SAP and systems based on SAP such as patient data management and support of medical and nurse care processes the Lower Austrian Hospital Holding trusted in products and project management of systema as a longstanding partner of the Holding. Besides technical consultancy in harmonzing inter-hospital data, 4 hospitals at 6 locations were fundamentally renewed as far as IT was concerned and integrated in one computing center.
The change from VMS to Windows as operating system for the central hardware and the systems running on this hardware was the centerpiece of this in-depth planned and carried out project.
